About the project....
The Grundy and Daviess County Soil and Water
Conservation Districts have been awarded a $229,500
grant to fund an Agricultural Nonpoint Source
Special Area Land Treatment (AgNPS SALT) project.
This money is awarded to Districts to address erosion
and pollution issues in a specified areas. To qualify,
that area (a watershed) must encompass a body of water that has
been deemed impaired or one that has the potential
to become impaired. The Hickory Creek is listed on
the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (MoDNR)
303(d) List of Impaired Water
Bodies.
A
"319" grant in the amount of $174,883 has
also been received from the Environmental Protection
Agency, through MoDNR, to aid in administering the
watershed improvement project as well as to help
develop informational / educational programs to
heighten public awareness of the potential
consequences and prevention of non-point source
pollution.
If
you are a landowner within the Hickory Creek
watershed, this is an excellent opportunity for you
to take advantage of available cost share money that
will not only better the environment, but can
improve your agricultural operations as well. This
will be a 5 year project that encourages the
implementation of a variety of best management
practices (see list below). It will also showcase
alternative practices through workshops, field days
and tours of demonstration sites.
